Volunteering

For those that want to go on a truly unique journey, why not join us as a volunteer? You will be guaranteed to leave behind a long-lasting, positive impact on the local community, as well as creating unforgettable memories in the process.

We offer a range of different experiences from teaching English to working with the farmers in the local community and we welcome people from all backgrounds who are willing to make a contribution to supporting our projects.

Volunteering is a fantastic way to become immersed in the Nicaraguan culture and way of life. It is also a great opportunity to gain confidence and leadership skills, as well as building work and life experience. Here is what some of our previous volunteers have had to say about their experience at La Bastilla:

“Gaining inspiration from the devoted team members of La Bastilla and the positive reactions of the mesmerized visitors has allowed me to accomplish many professional and personal achievements in under 30 days.” – Sara Fondriest, 2013

“It´s hard to enumerate everything that has made our time here so wonderful, but after our rounds of firm handshakes and hugs at the ends of our last classes, we know we´re going to miss this school.” – Steve and Nicky, 2012

If you are interested in volunteering with us, please note that we require a minimum commitment of one week and an intermediate level of Spanish. We also offer Spanish courses, particularly aimed at those volunteers who wish to improve their linguistic abilities.

For more information on the various volunteer activities please take a look at our Volunteer Handbook or visit the Contact Us page and send us a copy of your CV with a letter explaining your main areas of interest, your objectives and the expectations that you have regarding your voluntary service with us.
